STRIATE GLASSES OF BAGOLINI FOR DETECTING VISUAL FIELD DEFECTS IN GLAUCOMA
A. G. M. Jünemann, M. Wisse
Confrontation visual field test using Bagolini striated glasses is a useful tool for detecting homonymous or heteronymous quadrantanopic and hemianopic viusal field defects (1). This study was performed to evaluate the validity of this new screening test in glaucoma patients.
Patients and Methods: In 90 patients of the "Erlangen Glaucoma Register" (10 normal controls (N), 17 patients with ocular hypertension (OHT), 27 patients with preperimetric glaucoma (preOAG), 17 patients with normal tension glaucoma (NTG), 19 patients with high tension glaucoma (HTG)) the confrontation test using the striate glasses of Bagolini was performed (1). The patients were included consecutively during register control examination regardless of glaucoma stage.
Results: In case of scotomata striates were seen interrupted, shortened, or not at all.

Conclusion: The confrontation test using striate glasses (Bagolini) seems to be useful for detecting glaucomatous visual field defects. In this study only the diagonals of the four quadrants were tested with this quick screening device, thus not all defects were detected. Further studies are needed to improve the procedure.
