PARAMETRIC 3D EYE MODEL FOR DEMONSTRA-TION PURPOSE IN OPHTHALMIC SURGERY.

3D eye models are often used in video and paper presentations. In the past, only standard 3D eye models with fixed proportions were available or the author had to construct a new individual model, which was very expensive. Therefore, a new software was developed for automated construction of an individual 3D eye model.

Materials and Methods: The new software is a plug-in for the standard commercial 3D program "3D Studio MAX" (Fa. Kinetics). The plug-in software accepts the value parameters corneal diameter, central corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth, central lens thickness and axial length. According to these parameters, the construction of an individual eye model is performed automatically. Further modifying (rotation etc.) is also possible.

Results: All required parameters can be measured by standard instruments (circle, ultrasound biometry device, pachymetry device). The automatically constructed 3D model then reproduces the proportions of the original eye including details like the anterior chamber angle.

Conclusion: The presented parametric 3D eye model improves realism of 3D demonstrations reducing the temporal and financial expense.
